Postcard from Paros: A Summer Travel Guide

Postcard from Paros: A Summer Travel Guide

by founder & creative director, Molly Russell

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been to Greece, it’s the place I return to again and again, especially when I need to properly switch off. This summer, I headed back to one of my favourites: Paros and its laid-back little sister, Antiparos. The rhythm of life here is slow and simple: swim, eat, read, repeat. Bliss.

Antiparos is just a quick ten-minute ferry from Paros, but it feels like a world away, smaller, sleepier, and even more laid-back. It’s the kind of place where time slows down, and the day revolves around finding the perfect swimming spot or long, lazy lunch.

If you're planning a trip, here are my favourite spots - from quiet beaches to the best rooster stew.

Where I Stay

I always book into Margarita Studios in Ambelas. It’s a lovely little place run by friends and feels more like staying with family than in a hotel. It’s nestled in a peaceful village just ten minutes from the buzz of Naoussa, but worlds away in pace. I love that there's not much to do, a few tavernas, a sleepy beach, and that’s it. Perfect.

One of the best things about staying here is Stella, the owner’s mother, who offers home cooking classes. Her recipes are simple, generous and completely delicious, think local ingredients, slow cooking, and that wonderful Greek hospitality.

Swim Spots Worth the Dusty Tracks

For me, the best beaches are always the remote ones. Livadia and Faneromeni on Antiparos are favourites - wild, pebbled, and completely unspoilt. Getting there can be a bit of a mission (especially Faneromeni - take it slow on the rocky track!) but the views and the water are always worth it.

And if the wind picks up? I head to a local swimming pool - calm, quiet and still a great swim.

Where I Eat (And Eat Again)

  • To Mouragio in Aliki is one of those low-key gems I always come back to. The food’s clean and simple, and last time I was there, I spotted White Lotus star Walton Goggins. So clearly I’m not the only one who thinks it’s good.

  • Zombos feels like eating in someone’s home. It’s been around since the ’80s, when they didn’t even have electricity or running water. Order the rooster stew - rich, comforting, and completely delicious.

  • For unbeatable views, Captain Pipinos in Antiparos is hard to top. Tables right on the water, fresh seafood, and a view across to the ancient ruins on Despotiko.

  • I also love Tao’s, just outside Ambelas. It’s a peaceful retreat with amazing Thai food, not what you’d expect in Paros, but so good. They also offer yoga, massage, and meditation, which makes it feel like a little sanctuary away from everything.

  • And for sunset drinks and dancing? Sunset Antiparos is my go-to. Friendly staff, great music, and that pink sky glow - it never gets old.

What I Love to Do

One thing I always make time for is a boat trip. They cost around €40 and take you to sea caves and tiny, remote beaches you’d never find on foot. There’s something so freeing about diving off the side of the boat into that perfect blue water.

I also love a morning stroll through Lefkes Village. It's tucked away inland and full of winding lanes, whitewashed houses and blooming bougainvillea. Antiparos Town is great for a little wander too - especially if you love boutique shopping and handcrafted finds. I always end up leaving with a new woven basket or handmade ceramic.

This trip I also managed to squeeze in some reading. All Fours by Miranda July was a standout - a sharp, feminist page-turner that's as funny as it is unexpected. I also read Manifest by Estelle Bingham - a soulful guide by an inspiring healer, all about clearing blocks and aligning with your highest potential.

Every trip back to the islands feels like a reset. There's a magic to the Cyclades, especially when you know where to look. I come home salt-kissed, sun-warmed, and full of ideas. Until next year…
