How Our Prints Are Made

At Pink City Prints, we blend heritage and modern methods to bring each motif to life. We start with block printing: people use simple carving tools to cut the design, then press each fabric block in precise repeats that can be hard to align, and a second fabric block may add another layer. Depending on the artwork, we choose block printing or screen printing. Some designs begin with block printing to lay character, then screen printing adds fine lines and layered color; other times screen printing sets an even ground and block printing adds texture on top. When a piece relies on block printing alone, the hand makes each placement unique; when it relies on screen printing alone, a fine mesh controls the printing ink for crisp coverage. Many styles combine block printing with screen printing to balance detail and warmth, and screen printing also helps with color consistency. We mix low-impact block printing inks, then finish with careful heat setting so the prints stay bright through many wears and washes.
