Every block print dress here begins as plain organic cotton or linen and a set of hand-carved wooden blocks. Artisan printers in Jaipur stamp the pattern one color at a time, a craft passed down through generations, which gives each dress a depth and slight variation of its own.

Hand block printing is slow on purpose. The same families in and around Jaipur have carved blocks and mixed dyes for generations, laying each color down separately and drying the cloth between layers before it ever reaches our cutting tables. A block that slips a hair's breadth, a dye that pools a little deeper at one edge: these are the marks of the hand, and we leave them in.

What makes a dress a block print dress?

A block print dress is patterned by hand, using carved wooden blocks stamped onto fabric one color at a time, a technique practiced in Rajasthan for centuries. Every Pink City Prints block print dress is hand-printed in our Jaipur workshop, so no two are exactly alike.
What size should I order?

Our dresses run US 4 (XS) to US 12 (XL), UK 8 to 16. Because we measure the garment rather than the body, the fit is a little more generous than the number suggests; if you're between sizes, we'd suggest sizing up.
Where can I wear a block print dress?

Block print dresses go almost anywhere: vacations, garden parties, long lunches, outdoor celebrations and ordinary weekdays. Cut from breathable cotton and linen, they stay light and comfortable while still looking put together; the print brings the color, the silhouette keeps it relaxed.
Why does every block print dress look a little different?

Yes. Slight shifts in alignment, dye density and block placement are the signature of a hand-stamped print, so two dresses cut from the same bolt will never match exactly. Those differences are the proof of the handwork, not defects.
